Artificial Intelligence, Supercomputing, and Economic Intelligence in the geopolitical context of Latin America and the Indo-Pacific
On April 15, 2025, the Med-Or Italian Foundation held an event in Rome focused on the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) for economic and geopolitical analysis within the geostrategic framework of the Latin American and Indo-Pacific regions.

Titled "AI and Supercomputing in Support of Economic Intelligence," the workshop, organized by the Med-Or Italian Foundation on 15th of April, explored the opportunities presented by AI and HPC in the context of economic and geopolitical intelligence, particularly within the strategic environments of the Indo-Pacific and Latin America.
Held at the Foundation’s headquarters in Rome, the event opened with welcoming remarks from the Foundation’s chairman, Marco Minniti. It featured contributions from Emilio Billi, Professor at San José State University (California) and internationally recognized AI expert; Andrea Bairati, President of the Italian Association for Industrial Research (AIRI); and Stefano Ciurli, Head of Global Services at Enel.
The workshop provided a valuable forum for dialogue among academia, institutions, and industry, with a particular focus on Latin America and the Indo-Pacific—regions of growing economic significance undergoing rapid transformation in technologically advanced sectors. The discussions addressed key issues related to the application of AI and HPC, as well as future prospects for economic intelligence in an increasingly interconnected and competitive global landscape. Emphasis was placed on the urgency of adopting these technologies in regions such as the Indo-Pacific and Latin America, where digital transformation and economic competition make them essential tools for security and development.
The event also marked the presentation of the Foundation’s newly established Unit dedicated to international relations with Latin America and the Indo-Pacific.
