Draghi Plan: A double Marshall Plan is needed to revive European Industry

European defence industries, according to the ‘Draghi Plan’, must focus on innovation and sustainability to secure their future and that of the continent. The analysis by Settimo Cerniglia

European defence industries stand at a crossroads, as outlined in the "Draghi Plan". The facts and figures are clear: innovation and sustainability are fundamental for the future of both industry and the entire continent.

According to the Plan, there is no time to lose for these companies: artificial intelligence, automation, and advanced robotics are the key technologies of tomorrow. Urgent investment is crucial to keep pace in a rapidly evolving world. However, technology alone is not enough. Sustainability is a necessity, not a choice. Reducing environmental impact, cutting energy costs, and developing clean solutions are essential. Defense industries have the potential to lead this transition, but they must act with determination and speed.

Security is equally central. The Plan highlights the importance of reducing foreign dependencies and increasing autonomous production capacity in Europe. Protecting advanced technologies is crucial, and defense companies must become a pillar of strategic security.

Finally, investments are the lifeblood of progress. As the report underlines, public and private funds must converge to fuel growth. Defense and space are sectors where these industries must consolidate their presence, with defense systems and space technologies representing urgent necessities of today. In summary, the future waits for no one. Innovation, security, and sustainability are the watchwords for those who will adapt and remain key players on the global stage.
